Riverside Restaurant & Rooms is in an elevated position overlooking the River Torridge and its beautiful surroundings in Bideford, North Devon. Owned and run by husband and wife team since 2009, Simon and Donna Henry share a passion for delicious food and thoughtful service. Together they continue to welcome you throughout the year with a very personal experience to the restaurant or B&B.

Riverside is an ideal space for any event, a romantic meal for two or a family get together. The simple style of the restaurant allows full appreciation of its idyllic setting and the lovely rooms offer the opportunity for a rather special night away.

Here at Riverside we are avid animal lovers and have grown our menagerie over the years to now boast chickens, goats, pigs, and miniature donkeys, alongside our resident pets! Meet the stars …

Charlie, the playful English Springer Spaniel and Chloe the cute working Cocker Spaniel are very close to our hearts and great characters. Both are friendly and always happy to greet you. They will merrily pop over to you to say hello.

You might like to visit the little farmyard and see the goats and miniature donkey or chickens in the woodland. All of the animals in the farmyard are here for everyone to enjoy but please do not feed the animals at any time.

Toyser, gentle yet cheeky, is a reliable Miniature Mediterranean Donkey, an exotic breed originating from the islands of Sardinia and Sicily.. Now almost extinct in their native land, these diminutive little animals are “At risk globally” by FANGR, a committee which monitors the genetic resources of farm animals. Our donkey, Toyser, is a stallion able to service the “ladies” and a much valued member of our loving home.

Our friendly golden guernsey goats help maintain the woodland and hedgerow. Their main goal in life is to escape the pound where the grass is always greener! Their distinctive silky golden hair colour can vary from a pale blonde gold to a deep bronze. Their milk yield is fairly small, making it unsuitable as a commercial breed, but quite satisfactory as a family milk provider.

Nothing beats the delicious taste of our fresh eggs with their golden yolks in a scrumptious breakfast, meringues or fresh mayonnaise. Our family always kept chickens and we have bred chickens from an early start here at Riverside. You can see our flock of cute chicks with their curious behaviour pottering about their space in the woodland.

The Gloucestershire Old Spot with its black spots is known as the “orchard pig” as it was kept in orchards to graze the grass and to eat windfall apples is a rare breed. Folklore has it that the spots are bruises caused by falling apples. These are lovely and lively pigs that enjoys rooting for food and escaping providing top quality pork, roasting joints and sausages.

Riverside Bideford sits beautifully on the estuary of the river Torridge. The outside gardens, decks or covered terrace are all perfectly positioned to sit back and enjoy the view. The Refurbished summer house also provides seating and woodlands are great if you fancy a bit more of a walk. Relax and watch the changing tides of the river, the wading birds or the spectacular sunsets.

From Bideford Quay continue straight at the roundabout to take the A386 towards Torrington (for approximately 1 mile). This is a 60 mile/hour road.

Drive past Higher Marsh & Forest Hill House on the right and a lay by/truck stop on the left. We are just past ‘Halsannery House’ which is on your right, around the next left hand bend.

Drive past the first entrance and parking is 200 metres on your left.
